the old and the new

I. [pola]roid rage!

That’s my dad in the glasses and my mommy’s cousin at the grill.  I took this picture last summer when I refused to believe the talk that Polaroid film would no longer be produced.  When I got the official news, I was stunned.  I’ve had that camera since I was little.  I remember thinking how truly magical it was.  I could take a picture and have it fully developed only seconds later.  Talk about instant gratification.

Now I have a panic attack every time I try to eBay 600 film.  The thought of spending so much money at all once doesn’t read as an investment to me, the way it should.  A was nice enough to push me over the edge.  eBay had a bit of a glitch the other day that resulted in 35% back.  Instead of $100, A got me 80 polaroids for $75.  He’s so good to me and this is one of many reasons why I love him.

Now I can’t decide what to use my beautiful polaroids on.  They’re so limited, that is unless I decide to buy some more.  Eeeeh.  All I want to spend my money on these days is fashion foward clothing for work.  Haha, so sue me!  I want to be well dressed!

II. Interior Design

It hurts!  IT HURTS!!!

I swear, it’s like pulling teeth this interior design shit.  There are very, very talented people out there with a real knack for decorating small spaces.  Somehow, feeling overwhelmed and just plain scared, I’m not sure I’m one of those design prodigies.

Thank God for the internet.  There is a lot of free information out there, especially on blogs.  One of my favorites is:

Everything from the little trinkets to the amazing color schemes to the tricks to making spaces look larger — it’s all good information and that’s what gets me though.  Absolutely everything looks wonderful, it’s painful to make a hard decision.  I can’t even choose a color for my bedroom wall.  I already know I’m getting some furniture from my cousins’ old place.  It’s just lying around since they moved back home and now I get to use it, whether I like it or not.  My grandma isn’t a huge fan of the furniture taking up space.

The furniture is your basic fresh out of college furniture.

  • a nice wooden table with white painted legs
  • 4 chairs that decently match the table
  • a metal frame black futon (which will surely match with no elegant paint I choose… I find black extremely harsh)
  • a desk that’s about 5 years old — kind of misleading since it was never put together

Things I already have:

  • every kitchen appliance and utensil necessary to cook a gourmet meal
  • random desk shit (thanks college… 4 years to accumulate paperclips, tape, staplers, and mechanical pencils without erasers)
  • 2 pillows

Furniture I will definitely need:

  • a full mattress (and I’m just going to use the box spring that comes with it because I’m ON A BUDGET HERE PEOPLE!)
  • a coffee table (tricky since my “couch” is a black metal futon)
  • random side and bed tables
  • lamps
  • a medium sized dresser (MAJOR PLUS — my closet is HUGE! Oh dear… and all those clothes I must buy to fill it to the brim… mmmmm, ah yes.)
  • a desk chair
  • maybe a couch depending on how much I don’t want that futon
  • tons and tons of decorations!!!  (twinnie will most likely pick these out since I don’t have a faintest idea where to start with that)
  • a coat rack — yeah I know, I’m not sure why either.

Well, that’s my list for now.  I’m sure it will grow, granted I don’t go ahead and spend $3000 dollars on pencil shirts, cute blouses, sweaters, and unnecessary pumps.  At least I can justify and say it’s ALL FOR WORK.

Money!!!  I need money now.  I feel like dying my hair was a mistake.  It’s so light that I need to get my roots done every 4-5 weeks.  That hurts a bit when it ends up being like $350 each time.  Jesus.  I can’t wait for work to start.
